Located on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, with views towards Bass Strait, this two storey residence is situated on an 11 hectare rural property. The initial experience of the house is the view of three rectangular volumes placed symmetrically as an installation within the landscape. The entry to the residence, centrally located within the rammed earth walls of the upper level living enclosure, conceals the generous proportions of the house beyond. Upon entry an internal courtyard reveals itself as a protected ‘outdoor room’ which maximises natural light and ventilation to the living areas. The guest accommodation and indoor swimming pool are located in the lower level beneath the main living quarters.
The formal approach enclosed façade presentation belies the scale and open engagement that this home has with its surrounds. The sheltered central court is the linking element to the main living spaces.
